The photo video your is an excellent resource for use with new arrivals. Ask a buddy or EAL ambassador to take the child or a small group around the school, visiting the key locations on the sheet (these are editable to fit your setting). Children take photos of the locations and the buddy can explain in English (or first language if suitable) more information. During induction the photos can be printed and the child sticks them in to the booklet, tracing the location word and copying it if they can. They can add further information in the first language to help them understand and remember. There is a doodle page at the back where children can record other key information about the school. Children can take these home to share with family to help them get a feel for the school too.
